She's a Dancing Fool....Well, Maybe Not so Much...

I want to apologize for not having updated the blog in a while. Honestly, I am surprised that this is the first time that I have fallen behind. I will do better from now on. I promise :)

In the last month or so, Ainsley has been signed up for dance class. She goes on Wednesday mornings for an hour. Her class consists of ballet, tap and tumbling. She has tiny little ballet slippers and tiny little tap shoes. She loves to wear the tap shoes, as they are slippery and she finds it highly hilarious to slip and slide around on them. She also likes to strut around in her little leotard and tights.

She has had 2 classes so far. Both classes consisted mainly of me sitting on the floor, against the wall, with Ainsley in my lap, watching the class. She's a little timid right now about the whole thing, but she is starting to slowly spend more time out of my lap and actually on the dance floor with her teacher, Ms. Hollie. Ms. Hollie is a very talented dancer, who spent 3 years as a Jaguars cheerleader. She says that this is normal for the 2 and 3 year olds to be timid for the first 3 or 4 weeks. After that, they get out there and warm up to it all.

You may think that 2 is a little young for dance class, but it's really just to expose her to the moves and terminology for now. Of course, by the time June rolls around, she may have picked up a few of the moves so that she can show them off in the recital...

The pictures above are of Ainsley in her class.

Covered in Poop, Doctor's Visit, Locking Mommy out of the House and a Brand New Potty Seat......Oh My!

Here is a recap of the last week's activities...

Sunday- Steven had to run to the drugstore Sunday morning for a few things, and left Ainsley here with me for a little while. I was sitting here at the computer, watching Ainsley's little blond head as she watched Sesame Street. She never moved. About 15 minutes pass by and Ainsley walks over to me with her hands out in front of her, saying, "Ewww, hands Mommy!" I did not notice at first that she was naked from the waist down. All I noticed was that her hands had something smeared on them and that she was making a horrible face. I realize that it is poop covering her hands and that is when I realize that she has no pants on. Evidently, she had pooped and taken her pants and diaper off. Then she proceeded to play in the poop. She was covered in poop from the waist down. Fortunately, she was kind enough to keep the rest of the poop in the diaper and not smeared into the carpet. I took her back to her room. Instead of putting her little poop covered body up on her changing table and getting it poopy, I stood her in the floor in front of the changing table. While I was scrubbing her down with baby wipes, she lets loose and pees on me! So, not only was I cleaning up the poop, but now I had a pee puddle to clean up as well. I finally got her cleaned up and scrubbed down with antibacterial soap. Not 5 minutes later, Steven walked in the door. Perfect timing!

Wednesday, early afternoon- Ainsley had her 2 year old Well Baby check up with her doctor's office. She weighs in at 27 pounds 12 ounces, is 33.5 inches tall and her head circumference is 19 inches! She's my big girl. Katrina, the ARNP there at Dr. Benitez's office, even commented on how amazingly large Ainsley's vocabulary is :)

Wednesday, late afternoon- We had been home from the doctor for a while when the wind blew the screen door off the patio shut. Lily was at the back door, wanting to go outside, so I got up and walked outside. I didn't pull the backdoor all the way shut behind me as I was just stepping out to prop the door back open. Ainsley managed to slam the door shut behind me and LOCK the door! I tried everything that I could to get her to turn the key and let me back in, but it was no use. She was enjoying herself too much. I called Steven at work (good thing it was after 5) and he left as soon as he got off the phone. I knew that he was on his way, but it was going to take at least 45 minutes to get home. So, I pulled up a chair and watched my 2 year old run around the living room all by herself. I was so nervous that something would happen to her while I was outside. Then, it started to rain. Hard. By the time that Steven made it home, a full hour and 20 minutes after Ainsley had locked the door, I was soaked and freezing. Ainsley was starting to get upset from the storm. It was a nightmare.

Thursday- Per Katrina's (the ARNP) suggestion, I bought Ainsley a potty ring and step stool. She said that since Ainsley was showing a strong attachment to her potty seat and not really wanting to use it, but looking at it as a plaything, that a potty ring was probably the best route for us to go down. I let Ainsley pick out the potty ring that she wanted, as well as the step stool. She sat in the shopping cart at Target, clutching the potty ring to her chest and saying, "I love my potty seat." She was so proud of it. She even wanted to hold it in the car. Between 6:00 and 10:00 this evening, she used her new potty ring 3 times! Every time we put her on it. I'm sure that it would have been more than that, but we were actually moving my mom tonight and she was occupied with my mom while we loaded and unloaded boxes.
